                                             Mrs. Salmond                           Mr. Dowling

Welcome to North Addington Education Centre—whether you are a student, a parent or you are simply gathering information about our unique school, we are glad you have taken the time to visit us.  As a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school, we are special in many ways.

The Secondary Program at North Addington Education Centre welcomes students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 and prepares them for their eventual entrance into the work force.  For many of our students, the transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 might seem easy because they are simply moving from one part of the building to another.  In reality, this transition is still nerve-wracking for many of our students (and their parents).  Our Student Services team helps our students through this transition by scheduling regular visits for teachers to visit Grade 8s and for Grade 8s to visit secondary classes.  By the time students enter Grade 9, they have a good idea of what to expect as they move from elementary school to secondary school.

Whether our students have chosen a path that takes them directly to work after secondary school or to college or university first, our goal is to prepare them in such a way that they have all of the necessary requirements and the transition is smooth. Students are offered a wide range of academic subjects as well as the opportunity to develop skills and earn credits through Co-op placements and Peer tutoring assignments.  Although academics are extremely important, it is also important that our students develop work habits that will serve them well during their years at school and beyond.

In addition to our excellent academic program, secondary students have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of co-curricular activities.  These include Athletics at both the varsity and intramural level; Music which includes instrumental, vocal and theatre; Art Club which allows opportunities for public shows and Technology which, in some cases, allows students to compete at the District level and beyond.  Students also benefit from opportunities to visit colleges and universities through our Guidance program.

North Addington Education Centre is very thankful for the tremendous support we receive from our community; many of the awards presented at our annual undergraduate Awards Program as well as at Commencement are donated by individuals or organizations in the community.  As well, many local businesses and organizations make it possible for our students to earn volunteer hours and/or participate in co-op placements.  Without this support, many of our students would miss out on valuable learning opportunities.

Thank you for your interest; as you can see, our school motto:  "A caring community providing excellence in education" is reflected in all aspects of the secondary program at North Addington Education Centre.
