Principals Message

Dear Viking Families,

As we embark on this new and most unusual school year, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and offer some general insight into the beginning of our journey this year.

I am so pleased to be returning to North Addington. I had the privilege of being the Vice-Principal at NAEC for four and half years some years ago. In fact, NAEC was my first assignment as a VP and it has always held a special spot in my heart. Since those days, I was fortunate to hold Vice-Principal positions at Loughborough Public School and Collins Bay Public School. Most recently, I was the Principal at Storrington Public School. Now I’m back as your Principal and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I look forward to reconnecting with the students I knew in early primary grades who are now young adults in our senior grades.

This truly will be a year like no other and on behalf of all our staff, I would like to welcome you back. You may not be able to see our faces behind our protective masks, but we are smiling and thrilled to see you. We have been working hard to set the school up to meet the safety and education needs of our students. There will be much that is different, but we are also fortunate that much will be familiar. As we begin, we will be working hard to help our students adjust to and become comfortable with the new protocols that are in place. Please be confident that this will be done with compassion and understanding. We are all learning how to manage our lives and education under these conditions. To that end, we will be relying on our partnership with you to see us through as we adjust school to the “new normal”.

Let me speak for a moment to the school programing for the first week or two. As you know, we will be employing a staggered entry so that we can get new routines communicated and refined. We will spend a lot of time practicing these to get them down and to make adjustments where needed. We are in uncharted territory, so we expect this will take time. Diagnostic assessments and dialogue to figure out where students are at in terms of their academic learning will also be important. We know that learning has been impacted by our extended absence from school so we will need to determine where to start and how best to proceed for optimal student learning. Our staff, at every grade level, are committed to helping your child succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

So let’s get started and see what amazing moments we can create in this school year.
