Dear NAEC Families,

The first few weeks have flown by, and students are now settling back into the routines of
school. As part of the new year, we visited each of the classes to provide school climate reminders.

For our secondary students, tryouts have occurred for fall sports and their seasons are
under way. We have our one and only home opener for our Secondary boys Volleyball team Tuesday Oct. 7th at 3:30pm.

Come on out and cheer on our boys!

For our elementary students, cross country tryouts have also started. We also have a newly organized Creative Council this year,

as well as our Student Council who also have some exciting ideas planned out for the school year.

Please continue to check back for all of the amazing opportunities for students.

Last week we also had our picture day, if your child was away or once the proofs are received, you are hoping for a retake,

Picture Retake Day is Friday October 24th.

We look forward to welcoming all families in to the school this Thursday October 9th from 4:30 to 5:30pm for our Fall Open House.

We are moving to posting our Family Updates on our Website this year, as this will be our go to site for all NAEC information and updates.

Here you can find useful information such as the school year
calendar, what to bring to school, reporting when student(s) will be away, as well as school
climate goals including information about cell phones and vaping. You will receive an email
every two weeks, please continue to check your emails for updates and details as to what is
happening at school so it is important to continue to follow us in this years school journey.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at at any time

Message from School Council - Next Meeting is Oct 29th at 4:30pm

Welcome to NAEC! The School Advisory Council (SAC) consists of parents/guardians that
gather quarterly to collaborate, participate and contribute to the education of students in
our school. Education is a partnership and we invite you to be involved.

The focus of our meetings is information sharing and discussion. NAEC SAC attendees
usually consist the principal, a staff representative (VP), parent/guardians, and other school
representatives (student and staff member) as they are able. The meetings are typically an
hour in length and we have prioritized in person meetings where possible. Elections are
done within the first month of school. Our conversations usually highlight our student’s
achievements, equity and well-being.

Mandatory Human Rights Training for Athletes

All LDSB secondary students participating with KASSAA athletics or any athletic division must participate in and
complete mandatory human rights training. This occurred last week for all our NAEC athletes.

This training was done by Andrea Barrow, Equity and Inclusion Consultant (7-12) for the
Limestone District School Board.

NAEC Terry Fox Walk is Friday Oct. 17th

Our school wide Terry Fox Walk will take place on Friday, October 17th.  Thank you to our Student Council for their leadership and support with this very important annual fundraiser. Fundraising forms have been sent home with every student. Please ask your child if you have not yet received this.

Let’s honour Terry’s legacy and make this our best year yet! Together, as a school community, we can help fight cancer and give hope to the thousands of people facing this diagnosis each day.
